8-22-08 #2 post Can thinking about the future stall the present?

Can thinking about the future stall the present? I believe it can when the greater energy is focused on the future. Even if that future is a close present moment.Take the Olympics. Several times when I saw a pre-event interview with an athlete who won gold in the event for which they were waiting, part of the interview seemed to go something like this,"So how do you feel about your chances for your up coming event tomorrow?"
"I'm not even thinking about that now. I just need to focus on this event. I'll deal with the next one when it comes."
I can't say those who answered about the future got less than gold I wasn't that focused in all the interviews.
I do know that in my life I can really be into planning for a future project and spreading my energy into the future before my present is complete. I think it stems from my eagerness to get started on something that is new and exciting. Excitement is motivating. Thinking is motivating.
Part of me knows that the present events will be completed simply because I m not quitting. However, with less energy focused in the present what momentum one has could be lost; interest grows thin, and completing less likely. I also know when my interest is thin it only takes a small interruption to stop me. I always intend to go back and continue. In good times I do. At other times I get interrupted a 2nd time or more and what was a pause is now a dead halt. Put your focus and energy where you need it most. No matter what is in the future. The present needs it most.
